Joining Facebook, An Exercise In Futility
16th-Mar-2007 05:26 pm
bloody
I recently attempted to join Facebook using a gmail account. I registered like all the other jabillion sites out there but surprise, I did not get a confirmation email. I checked my SPAM folder, and nope, not in there either. I tried to register again. Still nothing. So thinking I would actually get some assistance I decided to email them. On the registration page is stated clearly:

Problems with registration? Email info@facebook.com from the email address with which you are attempting to register.

The following is the transcript of our email correspondance.

ME
Hi, I'm trying to register using this email address but I'm not receiving the confirmation email. I've tried registering twice and checking my SPAM folder. Please assist if you can.

CLIVE FROM FACEBOOK
Hi,

We currently have no record of anyone registering with this email
address. Is there some other email (or a different version of this one)
you could have used when you first created an account? Also, please let
me know what your full Facebook name was and what networks you were on.
We will look into this matter for you.

Thanks for contacting Facebook,

I don't have a Facebook account. I was trying to register one.

CLIVE FROM FACEBOOK
Hi,

Facebook now allows most people to register for the site. Simply follow
the instructions on the registration page, click on the confirmation
link that we email to you, and begin building your profile. After you
register, you will have the option to join one of our regional networks.
You can also affiliate with our high school, college, or work networks,
if you meet certain requirements:

- To join a High School network, you must be a current high school
student. If you have a school email address or an invitation from
another member of your high school network, you will be able to
affiliate during registration. Alternatively, you can register for the
site as an unaffiliated high school user. You will be asked to list your
high school's name. Once you are on the site, you will need to be
approved by a member of your high school network in order to join it. If
you do not successfully affiliate with a high school network within two
months, you will no longer be able to use the site.

- To join a college network, you need to have a valid school email
account. If you've already graduated, college alumni email accounts work
too. You must be able to access this email address to confirm your
affiliation.

- To join a work network, you need to have a work email address from a
supported company. This will put you on a network with your coworkers.

If your high school, college, or workplace is not a supported Facebook
network, please let us know and we will look into possible solutions.

Let us know if you experience any problems during the registration process.

Holy schnikes! I've been so M.I.A. online the last month, I completely missed this new entry from the hairy Asian-Canadian - after months of dormancy, it's definitely worth commenting on.

Of course you'd get the round-robin circular responses of email automation. Don't you know that certain things that are supposed to be so easy generally become anything but simple? This little account of your struggles gave me a good laugh after a long shitty day that still isn't over (and looks to be similarly shitty tomorrow).

Oh - and I completely meant to shoot you an email, but have totally spazzed on that too - in thanks for the disc-age. I received the package the weekend before last. I was giddy. You're the bomb, dude.

No problem, it was my pleasure. Thanks for Felicity... not really my bag but I can see why ya'll would like it. I should hit you up for BSG next.

So, not all that into J.J.'s first co-brainchild, huh?

If you're serious about the other, I can get on it - no problemo. Just say "this is me hitting you up for BSG", and you can have your very own S1 and S2 sets before too long. S1 is on loan right now to another friend, but I should have it back pretty soon.

Hey do you know when S3 is coming out on DVD? I was thinking of making my own but I won't bother if it's going to be released soon. Oh and this is me hitting you up for BSG. :) You da man, Jeff.
