Vancouver landed 3rd place in a quality of life survey. Not really news... we land on this list every year. The top ten:

1 Zurich, Switzerland
2 Geneva, Switzerland
3 Vancouver, Canada / Vienna, Austria
5 Auckland, New Zealand / Dusseldorf, Germany
7 Frankfurt, Germany
8 Munich, Germany
9 Bern, Switzerland / Sydney, Australia

And also, I'd like to share this lovely video of Alanis Morissette do a cover of the atrocious "My Humps" by the Black Eyed Peas. It's fantastic! Isn't Youtube amazing?

I recently attempted to join Facebook using a gmail account. I registered like all the other jabillion sites out there but surprise, I did not get a confirmation email. I checked my SPAM folder, and nope, not in there either. I tried to register again. Still nothing. So thinking I would actually get some assistance I decided to email them. On the registration page is stated clearly:

Problems with registration? Email info@facebook.com from the email address with which you are attempting to register.

The following is the transcript of our email correspondance.

ME
Hi, I'm trying to register using this email address but I'm not receiving the confirmation email. I've tried registering twice and checking my SPAM folder. Please assist if you can.

We currently have no record of anyone registering with this email
address. Is there some other email (or a different version of this one)

me know what your full Facebook name was and what networks you were on.
We will look into this matter for you.

I don't have a Facebook account. I was trying to register one.

CLIVE FROM FACEBOOK
Hi,

Facebook now allows most people to register for the site. Simply follow
the instructions on the registration page, click on the confirmation
link that we email to you, and begin building your profile. After you
register, you will have the option to join one of our regional networks.
You can also affiliate with our high school, college, or work networks,
if you meet certain requirements:

- To join a High School network, you must be a current high school
student. If you have a school email address or an invitation from
another member of your high school network, you will be able to
affiliate during registration. Alternatively, you can register for the
site as an unaffiliated high school user. You will be asked to list your
high school's name. Once you are on the site, you will need to be
approved by a member of your high school network in order to join it. If
you do not successfully affiliate with a high school network within two
months, you will no longer be able to use the site.

- To join a college network, you need to have a valid school email
account. If you've already graduated, college alumni email accounts work
too. You must be able to access this email address to confirm your
affiliation.

- To join a work network, you need to have a work email address from a
supported company. This will put you on a network with your coworkers.

If your high school, college, or workplace is not a supported Facebook
network, please let us know and we will look into possible solutions.

Let us know if you experience any problems during the registration process.

Thanks for contacting Facebook,

A little soon for another post, but I don't care. Here's 50 random questions.

Found this while flipping through a old Maxim. Masi Oka from Heroes? You be the judge.

19th-Dec-2006 12:32 am - Merry Happy Whatever
bloody
Tis the season to say merry/happy whatever - but there's something on my mind that is making me feel less than festive: The whole Santa hat thing... Santa hats on everything! Now I get into the holiday spirit too, but enough is enough - it's driving me nuts nuts nuts. So what's a deranged and mentally unstable young girl with gender confusion to do? Retaliate by having Chanuka hats. Chanuka is always overlooked and never given much thought, but it's about time it deserved some credit. Some of your favourite actors and characters on TV are Jewish believe it or not, so I now I take the time to honour them:

Lost's Josh Holloway and Matthew Fox both smoke weed and go to the beach content in knowing they are the Children of G-d.

Battlestar's Apollo likes to recite the Torah in the shower, and evil super-genius Gaius Baltar canoodles with his very own robotic/imaginary shiksa.

Veronica Mars' Logan Echolls dons his kippah and acts innocent when the cops show up. Piz proves that not all Jews are smart, handsome, funny, useful, or worthy of life/space.

Hero's Hiro Nakamura is much too cheerful to be Jewish and yet he is. That little kid - whatshisface is too.

On the next episode of The Office, Dwight and Michael attend a J-Date mixer.

Dexter's title character honed his skills performing Briss' before graduating to serial killing. His buddy Matsuka, gets his thriftiness from his Jewish step-mother and his pervertness from his Japanese father, and yet with his kippah on he looks Chinese... which somehow still makes sense.

Now that I've offended everyone, Merry/happy whatever.
bloody
So first, there's a Battlestar reference on The Office, then Veronica Mars starts saying "frak" like there's no tomorrow, and then last night it was immortalized on South Park. The image of a bed-sheet-wearing post-op transexual Mr. Garrison in bed, seducing a respected scientist and debating religion is ingrained in my mind forever. After convincing him that there's no God (with a BSGish score playing in the background), they start going at it like a pair of Bonobos monkeys. Off the top of my head, I don't remember South Park spoofing any sci-fi series except for Star Trek and Star Wars, so it's a pretty big honour. BSG is almost mainstream and that's amazing and wonderful because it's absolutely the best show on TV right now.

Click here for the clip (NSFW and probably incredibly offensive)

Also I made ridiculously good pancakes today. If you make pancakes from scratch, take the eggs in the recipe and seperate them into yolks and whites. Add the yolks as per the recipe but take the whites and whip them up like meringue until they're nice and fluffy and form soft peaks. Fold them into your batter just before you put them on the griddle. You'll get very nice light and fluffy pancakes.

Finishing my round-up, here's my take on Jericho, Ugly Betty, Help Me Help You, Studio 60, Justice, 30 Rock, The Nine, Heroes, *and* the best new show on TV by a country mile. That's right - not Heroes, not The Nine, not Studio 60.

Find out what the hell show I'm talking aboot...Collapse )
